Building your first website is easy with today’s free easy website building tools.  Blogger.com, WordPress.com, and WordPress.org are just three of the more popular website building tools available to create your website.  Within a few hours, a newbie can have a respectable looking website up and running.

For the novice, web design and web development are synonymous.  Web design leans more toward the presentation of the website.  While web development leans more to the functionality of the website.  Some may argue with those definitions.

Too often, the novice pays too much attention to the presentation of his website and not enough to its functionality.  You certainly want your website to be pleasant to the eye of the visitor.

Content is just as important as the presentation.   As a beginner, you often overlook this part of the equation.  I have seen some very basic looking webpages/websites with very compelling words.  Words that make me want to go pull out my credit card right now.

Never mind that they look like a child’s coloring book full of colors and different sizes of print.  They work or they wouldn’t be out there.  This is not to say that you do not want to have a nice looking website.  Yes, you do.

Beware of the “this is my baby” mentality and forget the main purpose of your webpage/website – SALES.  Pay as much attention to the word content of your website or webpage as you do to the visual presentation.

A good coaching program can guide you and teach you not only how to install the software, but also what to do with it once you have it installed.

More importantly, it can teach you how to make money with your new site using the right content.

You can level your learning curve by seeking a mentor or you can go it alone. Many choose to go it alone because they’re broke and they have heard the call of making fast money online. In ten days, in thirty days, you will be a millionaire. Some might, most won’t. Are you one of the many who won’t be successful at Internet marketing? Find out how not to be one the unfortunate many and what you should do first. Read this.

This is not about buying into some program or finding a mentor. If you’re broke, you don’t have the money to buy into a program and most mentors aren’t consulting for free. So forget that.

This is about you. This is about what you want. You must be forewarned; you might not like this. To succeed in Internet marketing you’ve got to work at it. Period. This might not go well with gurus who promote get rich quick schemes, but it’s the truth. There are many ways to succeed at Internet marketing, but all of them require work.  They require effort. There’s no one secret formula. There are many ways. There are as many ways to succeed as there are gurus.

This is a self motivating industry. No one is going to tell you that you can’t take a break or that it’s time to call it a day. You will call the shots. But then that’s the beauty of being your own boss. That’s the beauty of being an Internet marketer, you call the shots.

So here is where you start: you start by doing something, anything! You say, ‘Well that’s not any advice, that’s not a concrete step, that’s not giving me any direction. I want specifics. I want to know what to do first and then second, then third …”

There are many ways to get started. You will find good, bad, useful, and useless information for free on the Internet. But your success will not depend on that information alone. You can learn, and you can learn, and you can go on learning; you won’t ever succeed at Internet marketing. You’ll get discouraged and quit.  You will succeed at learning, not Internet marketing.  Yes, you’ve got to educate yourself. Once you’ve learned something implement it. Do it!  Take a deep breath. Stop. Do it! You must act!

Do something, even if it turns out to be wrong; it can always be undone and you will have learned what not to do! Will it take you a week, a month, three months to make money? Most successful small business owners take a year plus to turn a profit. You might do better.

A Newbie

This website is aimed at helping us Newbies get started.  It’s a combination of a website, blog, forum format.  You can comment, ask a question, and get a response.  It will be interactive. There will also be informative articles added regularly that will help us stumble less along the way to making money online.  I will promote product but nothing that I haven’t found helpful.  After all, I am an Internet marketer!  As I come across FREE STUFF that I find helpful, I will pass it along.

Like many of you reading this, I’m a very new affiliate marketer working online from home.  I must tell you that I’ve been at this for four months and haven’t made a penny yet!  After twenty plus years in the rat race of corporate America, I retired.  Like you, I had dreamed of owning my own business.  I bought a retail store with my corporate retirement money and for seven years I toiled 24/7 to keep that store running smoothly.  Eventually, I retired from that endeavor.

You know, as I do, that the Internet is the fastest growing marketing tool on the planet.  Consumers spent $26 billion dollars online last year according to the U.S. Department of Commerce.  New millionaires are making their fortunes on the Internet and most are making their money at home.  You see it all around you.  I was intrigued.  It fired my imagination.  I decided that Internet Marketing was for me, and I suspect you have too.  I jumped in.

I know your confusion and anxiety at getting started.   I have experienced it.  Have you?  When I did my due diligence research… HTML code, domain names, hosting, domain forwarding, and many, many more terms and concepts that I knew nothing about, I nearly went brain dead with the overload of information.  I felt like a sponge in the middle of an ocean.  I could have gone to a college or university to learn about those things.  But I’ve been there, done that.  Besides, I’m retired!  I went looking for someone or something that would help me get started.

Learning a new business by trial and error is the hard way.  Knowledge eliminates the fear of the unknown.  There are many training and coaching clubs online to help you get started.  Find one that will provide you with the mentoring, knowledge, and online support that you are comfortable with.  I did.  Find one that will walk you through step-by-step.  Remember to test drive whatever you choose before you commit.  I found one, Maverick Money Makers.  Without it, I would still be floundering, surfing the Internet not knowing exactly how and where to start, stumbling along the way.  Try It!  If you’re interested here is the link that sold me.
